This part is added comment to the limited statement by SAG rules.
The board of directors is made up of individuals, so when you cast
your vote do your home work. Ask yourself: What have they done
as individuals to improve SAG?
Membershipfirst as a whole was in control of the boardroom for 18
months before a former board member proposed open board meetings.
I made the proposal because it became evident to me MF had no
intention of transparency of the board room. Because of past campaign
promises they were forced to approve my proposal and open them up.
Membershipfirst has made the claim they have re-energized committees,
"so activist working actors are once again able to make policy at the
Guild through committees of their peers" when in fact they silenced the
independent voices of the African American, Asian American, Latin American
and the American Indian by removing their committees from the Guild.
Medmbershipfirst is claiming victory with commercial residual increases across
the board, but fail to allow a minority report that would expose this deal as the
failure it is. This deal is going to put us behind the 8 ball once again with
new media distribution, and in the 2 year extension you will not be paid
for experimental distribution. The Guild must change its policy to state,
"An actor shall be compensated for his or her work when ever used", so
when a new business model for distribution is created the fact of being
compensated is not the issue, it's just how much.
Yes there is so much work the guild needs to attend to. Your vote will
remind the board that the needs and concerns of the struggling actor
have to be attended to. Yes, protection of the pay and residuals of the
upper 5% of the membership is important, but not at the cost of forgetting
about the other 95% who struggle just to get that next job.
VOTE FOR THE WILD BUNCH SLATE WE HAVE YOUR BACK.
THANK YOU MARK
